The Economic Force of Messe Frankfurt

Revenue of €718 million, over 2,500 employees, and 11 event halls: Messe Frankfurt has proved itself as a premier exhibition and event venue. Although the precise number of business cards that change hands there each year is unknown, it is estimated to be an eight‑digit figure given the venue’s 1.4 million visitors in the past year.

Covering an extensive 592,000‑square‑meter area equivalent to 83 soccer fields, Messe Frankfurt is the world’s largest organizer of trade fairs, conferences, and events that owns and operates its own exhibition grounds. Messe Frankfurt’s prominence across the world is partially attributable to the Frankfurt Book Fair and the crowd‑drawing international motor show IAA, attracting more than 810,000 visitors. However, the fact that not only the bookworms and automobile enthusiasts get their money’s worth is evidenced by the numerous events throughout the year hosted by Messe Frankfurt for a wide range of different industries. For example, while the Ambiente trade fair revolves around consumer goods, the formnext exhibition and conference focuses on innovative manufacturing technologies.

The entire state of Hessen undeniably benefits from Messe Frankfurt’s success, as the numerous international exhibitors and attendees are also customers of Hessian companies who serve to boost the state’s tax revenue, purchasing power, and jobs. The Ifo Institute for Economic Research determined that Messe Frankfurt visitors spend an average of approximately €520, which includes overnight accommodation, dining, retail shopping, and transportation. The Ifo study also found that events held at Messe Frankfurt add a staggering €3.6 billion to Germany’s annual purchasing power, two‑thirds of which (€2.4 billion) is allocable to Hessen.

Take advantage of this excellent opportunity to visit one of these internationally renowned events and make sure to bring some business cards along to hand out. It certainly won’t hurt.
