Hessen once again preferred by international investors

2014 was another record-breaking year for Hessen: 144 companies from all over the world relocated to Hessen or expanded existing investments – never before have there been so many investments. Following on 119 projects in 2013, Hessen recorded the highest-ever number of foreign investment projects last year – a 21% increase. In the annual ranking of German states, Hessen is regularly in a top position, and also occupies first place in terms of size.

"The record number of international relocations and the numerous expansion projects in 2014 are – apart from the outstanding location conditions – also the result of an excellent collaboration between all Hessian business promoters and an excellent cooperation with the colleagues at Germany Trade & Invest," says Dr. Rainer Waldschmidt, CEO of Hessen Trade & Invest GmbH.

"Hessen, along with the Frankfurt Rhine Main Region, is Germany's most international location," adds Eric Menges, CEO of FrankfurtRheinMain GmbH International Marketing of the Region. "The number of relocations shows how attractive we are to foreign companies as well as investors."

"We are delighted about the numerous international establishments and the very professional support from Hessen," adds Dr. Benno Bunse, first managing director of Germany Trade and Invest – Gesellschaft für Außenwirtschaft und Standortmarketing mbH. "As a federal business promoter, we need the states. Collaboration with Hessian colleagues has always been excellent."

In 2014, 37 companies came from the USA, 32 from the People's Republic of China, 13 from Great Britain and 9 from France and India. This shows that for Hessen, the USA remains the most important country of origin for direct investments: 18 of the 37 American establishments were supervised by the Hessian foreign office in New York. In addition, four Canadian investment projects were acquired.

Looking at the various sectors, the ones most frequently represented are software/IT services, service providers, biotech/medical technology/health management, financial management and mechanical engineering.

In cooperation with the regional and local business promotion efforts, Hessen Trade & Invest determines the international establishment and expansion projects once a year.

Hessen Trade & Invest advises foreign companies that relocate to Hessen or would like to transfer or expand their operations. It is the point of contact for investors at state level, informs about taxation, the right of residence and labor law, advises about promotion possibilities and financing programs, draws up tailor-made location offers in close cooperation with regional and local players, organizes site visits and helps with approval procedures.
