The cultural and creative sector is both future-oriented and high-growth, and it is considered a key component for innovation in other sectors. More than 20,000 companies in this sector achieved €11.7 billion in sales in 2015. About 70,000 employees plus numerous freelancers, minor employed in this segment, more than in the chemical and pharmaceutical industries as well as the mechanical engineering branch (total number of creative workforce: almost 117,000). The largest sub-sectors in terms of sales are the software/games, advertising, press and design.
Hessen offers cultural and creative businesses a rich environment of internationally-oriented companies, excellent professional training and numerous business networks. These are all factors which contribute to an excellent business climate. The creative scene grows and prospers in close proximity to numerous multinational manufacturing companies, which in turn leads to synergies and cooperation.
The profiles of the companies in the cultural and creative business segment are as diverse as the innovative services they provide. From the smallest companies to global players, from news agencies to a satire magazine, from author to designer, the climate is excellent for creative work. In addition, a wide range of trade associations and institutions is located in Hessen, which supports the cooperative spirit and ensures that networks of expertise and business contacts are created.
The Cultural and Creative Office in Hessen is located in the HA Hessen Agentur GmbH. It is authorized by the Hessen State Economics Ministry to inform this business sector about subsidy programs, exchange information and also to establish business networks through a range of projects. The office is a contact point for locating institutions in this segment as well as experts and consultants.
